Add microphone to bose headphones

I purchased a set of Soundsport Free Headphones recently, they proved to be excellent when listening to audio on my iPhone 8 and iPad. They also were great when viewing on the same two devices, no audio visual lag. I had recently installed the latest updates from Bose on 6 February The main aim of my purchase was to watch and listen to my TV when on my spin bike at home.

I was using an external bluetooth transmitter on my Samsung TV. There was a substantial audio lag when using this. My first action was to ring Bose customer support to ask if this was a known issue? Is there an iminent fix? If so, when would the fix be launched. The resonse I recieved was both surprising and very negative.

I was told that the Soundsport Free Headphones were an audio product and there was information to that effect on the Bose website to say in some audio visual circumstances there would be an audio lag. I was informed that this was a known issue and Bose were 'working on it'.

When would it be fixed? I then asked if I could speak to a line manager who may know more, ok I'll get somone to call you, no one did. Needless to say I was very displeased with the response, or lack of it. I thought I'd contact the provider of the Bluetooth transmitter I purchased to plug into my television. The mist then cleared, apparently if the headphones were compatible with APTX Low Latency they would work without audio delay.

The sound quality is not, as expected, as good as the Bose product which is why I invested in Bose. These headphones are bluetooth, wireless but each earphone is connected by a cable that shares the audio signal. Armed with this information I again called Bose customer services. Well what a different expirience when talking to someone with a positive customer services attitude. There was an admission that the Soundsport Free in some circumstances would not be suitable for my use, If this was clear on the Bose marketing page I would not have bought these in the first place.

After discussion I decided to return the product and purchase the Bose Soundsport Pulse, not individual earphones but joined with a small cable which rests on the back of the neck. They work perfectly, great sound quality, comfortable, perfect Bluetooth connection and no audio lag.Combine great sound with your iPhone via Bluetooth.

The Bose Bluetooth headphones are the most popular headphones on the market, thanks to their high-quality sound cancellation and noise features. Each method works perfectly to make the initial connection, but the Bose Connect app tends to be more functional, as it enables more functionality after the coupling is completed.

In addition to simplifying the entire connection process, the Bose Connect app is also used for installing new firmware updates and can add support for new features as well as correct audio bugs or technical problems. You may need to charge them before they are turned on and connected to your iPhone or other smart devices. This is completely normal and simply means that the app is downloading an update that will send wirelessly to your Bose headphones as soon as it is ready.

While the Bose Connect app is the recommended way to pair Bose headphones with an iPhone, you can also connect Bose headphones to your iPhone using the iOS Settings app. While this method works to connect the Bose headphones to your iPhone, you will need to use the Bose Connect app to install updates and check the desired noise cancellation level. Turning off the Bose Bluetooth headphones is quite simple. All you need to do is press the switch on the right earphone from green to red.

If you want to disconnect them from your iPhone while still using them on another device, you can too. Open the Bose Connect app, tap your headphones image, then tap Disconnect. You can also turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone to disable the wireless connection. Sign in. Log into your account. Password recovery. Below are some of the angles touched: show.

Turning your favorite headphones into a headset that can record your voice, take calls, and handle video chats is easy.

Don't get us wrong, there are some great headsets with attached microphones for all purposes, and if PC gaming is your forte, you have even more options. However, even with some of those, you may find yourself wishing you could both chat with your friends or take Google Hangouts or Skype calls without sacrificing audio quality or music quality while you work or play. Luckily, it's not hard to make your favorite headphones voice-friendly.

Here's what you need. The fastest way to turn any set of headphones into a headset, complete with an attached microphone, is to buy an attachment designed to do the job.

There are pros and cons to this approach—for one, it's obviously the easiest and gets you to the finish line the fastest, but at the same time you sacrifice control over the type of microphone you use and how it connects to your computer or phone.

Here are a few examples:. These three are just a few headphone adapters and microphone add-ons that you can easily get and tack on to your existing pair of headphones without making any permanent changes.

You'll wind up with an extra length of cable to keep wrapped up and organizedbut you will be able to rock your favorite headphones when you take video calls or while you're on the go and still answer your phone and talk to your friends. If you're more interested in a permanent mod for your headphones, you have some more options, but you'll need to get out your soldering iron and prep a few other tools. It's not for the faint of heart, either—you'll probably wind up cracking the case on your headphones to add a microphone jack or boom mic.

For example, this guide shows you how to add detachable headphones to a pair of Monoprice sbut the principle is similar for any other pair of headphones you might want to mod. When you're finished with it, you'll have a pair of plugs you can use with discrete audio input and output jacks. If you prefer an in-line microphone, this guide from the folks at Tested uses a pair of earbuds to do the job, and walks you through which wires to solder to which and how to connect it all up.

When you're finished with this one, you'll have a single integrated plug you can use with the port on a smartphone or laptop. If your goal is to connect your headphones to a gaming console, you have some more options as well.

If you'd rather not do a bunch of soldering, you can get away with connecting your headphones and microphone to your console using a slightly easier method that involves a bunch of adapters and cables.

It won't be pretty and you'll probably sacrifice some audio quality thanks to all of the connectors, but it'll work too. Sure, you can go out and buy an expensive headset to do voice chat with your friends, and then a more portable set for taking calls on the go, or just not buy earbuds without a microphone in-line, but if you already have a pair of headphones you love, it's easy and affordable to add a microphone in-line with an adapter.

If you want a more integrated solution, you can roll up your DIY sleeves and get the job done that way.

The problem is that when I receive a call I have to reach into my pocket, pull out the iPhone, answer the call and often adjust the volume control. Then, when the call is complete I have to hangup, adjust the volume again and put the phone back into my pocket. Wouldn't it be great if there was a 3. After a bit of searching, I found that Bose sells a mobile adapter kit for their Quiet Comfort headphones which includes a microphone and a single control switch for answering calls or switching iPod tracks but no volume control.

I found a few other adapters that add the same functionality but again, no volume controls. Time for a bit of cutting, splicing, soldering and heat-shrink tubing. I'll show you how to add a microphone, control switch and volume control to your Bose or any other headphone by lopping off the earbuds of your latest generation Apple earphones with remote and splicing the left and right earbud wires to your Bose headphone cable.

Needless to say, I have a couple of sets around with defective left earbuds. Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson.

Cut the right earbud off of the latest generation of Apple earphones with remote leaving about 2 inches of cable above the remote. Cut the left earbud off so that it's the same length as the right cable.

Strip about an inch of the outer insulation off each end of the cable.

I used an X-Acto knife to score completely around the outer insulation. Pull off the insulation. Cut these off where they emerge from the outer insulation. I'm not sure what they are for, but I checked, and they do not connect to anything in the earbud itself.

Cut the cable coming out of your Bose headphones so that it is about 8 inches long. Strip about an inch of outer insulation from the end of the cable. This will expose 3 wires, a red, green and a copper. Twist all three copper wires 1 from left iPhone cable, 1 from right iPhone cable and 1 from Bose headphone cable together and solder. The red and green sets of wires have an insulation that will melt with soldering. Twist the two red wires together.

Use Bose Headphones for Gaming

Apply heat and solder until the insulation melts and the solder flows. Repeat this step with the two green wires. Trim the ends of the wires. Apply heat shrink tubing to the copper GND splice, red splice and green splice.

Shrink the tubing with a heat gun. Cut a short piece of heat shrink tubing that has a diameter which will slide over the Apple 3. Slide the tubing up the cable so that it covers the copper GND splice on the black Bose side of the cable as shown on the photo.

Use a heat gun to shrink both pieces of tubing. Cut another piece of heat shrink tubing long enough to cover the entire splice as shown in the photo and shrink. Cut a few short pieces of tubing to keep the dual leads on the iPhone cable from separating, position as shown and shrink into place.

Plug the Bose end of the cable back into your Quiet Comfort headphones. Plug the Apple end of the cable into your iPhone and enjoy the ability to switch tracks, answer calls, voice dial and control volume with your Bose Quiet Comfort headphones!
