The Rajputs, defined simply, were a group of 36 clans set in western India, mainly Rajasthan which gained substantial power over the early medieval and medieval periods in India. The origin of Rajputs differs with various different writings, one traces Rajputs as foreign immigrants of the Post-Gupta age whereas others consider them of pure Kshatriya origin.
Historian C. As according to him, none but Vedic Aryans could have fought so valiantly in defence of ancestral faith. Another viewpoint according to various writings was that the Rajputs rose to prominence in the process of resisting foreign invasions and in doing so, fulfilled the role of Kshatriyas fighting for land and culture. Which means the tendency to create lineages and genealogies and forming up a dynastic superstructure. Which creates a both temporal and genetic relationship on them, where the data provides neither.
Such attempts were how to close other apps that may use camera or flashlight to get away from their original ancestory and to hence glorify their lineage and juxtapose their stance in society attempt to legitimize. Hence, the Rajputs, like the traditional varna categories, were following a recognizable chanel of transition from tribal to state policy.
Hence, there was a simultaneous proliferation of the process of Rajputization in different areas. The closest way of recognizing genuine Rajput clans was to gather evidence from later literature. Statements showing the list of clans, numbering 36, can be seen in a number of famous writings such as the works of Kumarapalacarita and the Varnaratnakara.
The Rajatarangini too refers to the number However, analysis of various lists gives us an idea that it is really difficult to accertain a certain number of clans as the name rarely tally with each other.
The inclusion in the list of Rajput clans was provided by the contemprory status of the clan. Names such as Cahamans and Pratiharas occur regularly, due to their political dominance. There are two important pointers to the process of proliferation of the Rajputs in the early medieval records. This colonization can be teamed up with records of agrarian expansion.

The Jat regions in India are among the most prosperous on a per-capita basis Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat are among the wealthiest of Indian states.
There are many theories about the origin of the Jats. Jats are sometimes considered to be of Scythian SakaIndo-European, Indo-Iranian or Indo-Aryan stock in view of the similar physical features and common practices with one or the other of these groups.
The former identified them with the "Zanthi" of Strabo and the "Jatti" of Pliny and Ptolemy; and held that they probably entered the Punjab from their home on the Oxus very shortly after the Meds or Mands. These Meds or Mands, who he also considered to be Indo-Scythians, who moved into the Punjab about a century before Christ. The Jats seem to have first occupied the Indus valley as far down as Sindh, whither the Meds followed them about the beginning of the Common era.
Before the earliest Muslim conquests, the Jats had spread into Punjab proper, where they were firmly established by the beginning of the eleventh century. By the time of Babar, the Jats of the salt range had been in constant conflict with the Gakkhars, Awans and Janjuas. Tod classed the Jats as one of the great Rajput tribes; but here Cunningham differed from him holding the Rajputs to belong to the original Aryan stock, and the Jats to a late wave of immigrants from the north west, probably of Scythian race.
But if they do originally represent to separate waves of immigration, it is at least exceedingly probable, both from there almost identical physique and facial character and from the close communion which has always existed between them, that they belong to one and the same ethnic stock; and it is almost certain that the joint Jat Rajput stock contains not a few tribes of aboriginal descent, though it is probably in the main Aryo-Scythian, if Scythian be not Aryan.
It has also been mentioned by Bhim Singh Dahiya. The Jats are descendants of King Yat. There are many variations of the term Jat.
In the Punjab, the phonetic sound is 'Jutt' or 'Jatt'.

Health Dep.The term "Rajput" comes from rajaputra, which means "son of kings. The British grouped many of these states into the Rajputana Province. Today, it is the Indian state of Rajasthan. These groups entered India as conquerors and became kings or rulers. They often married high-caste Hindu women or converted to Hinduism. By the ninth century, Rajputs controlled an empire that extended from Sind to the lower Ganges Valley, and from the Himalayan foothills to the Narmada River.
This firmly established Muslim power and ended Rajput dominance. The only Rajput kingdoms that could challenge Mughal rule were those in the great Thar Desert. In the eighteenth century, many Rajput states came under control of Marathas and, by the early nineteenth century, the British. Many Rajput kings retained a status as rulers of princely states under the British.
This ended when India gained its independence in About million people in India call themselves Rajputs. They live throughout northern India, although Rajasthan is considered their cultural homeland. Rajputs speak the language or dialect of their region. In Rajasthan, Rajputs speak one of the dialects of Rajasthani, which sounds a little like Hindi. Many folktales describe Rajput exploits. In one story, a ksatriya warrior clan leader decided to kill all Brahman priest and scholar men after learning a Brahman had killed his father.
This meant Brahman females had to marry ksatriya men and gave rise to various Rajput dynasties. In another story, gods created some ksatriya clans on Mount Abu in Rajasthan to help fight Buddhists and foreigners. These Rajputs were known as the agnikula "fire-race" and were the ancestors of clans such as the Chauhan, Solanki, and Ponwar Rajputs. Other Rajput clans trace their ancestry to the Sun or Moon. Most Rajputs are Hindu. They were known for protecting Hinduism against Buddhism and Islam.

The Rajput population and the former Rajput states are found spread through much of the subcontinent, particularly in north, west and central India. During their centuries-long rule of northern India, the Rajputs constructed several palaces. The origin of Rajputs is the subject of debate. Writers, such as M. Naravane and V. Malik, believe that the term was not used to designate a particular tribe or social group until the 6th century AD, as there is no mention of the term in the historical record as pertaining to a social group prior to that time.
At the same time, some indigenous tribes were ranked as Rajput, examples of which are the BundelasChandelas and Rathors. The Encyclopaedia Britannica notes that Rajputs " From the beginning of the 9th century, Rajput dynasties dominated northern parts of India, and the many petty Rajput kingdoms became the primary obstacle to the complete Muslim conquest of Hindu India.
Even after the Muslim conquest of the Punjab and the Ganga River valley, the Rajputs maintained their independence in Rajasthan and the forests of central India. Please share your views by responding to this post and starting a healthy conversation between generations of Rajputs. Hi Fellow Rajputs, I found an interesting article about a clan of UP Rajput Gautams who converted into Islam, yet maintain their historical affiliations.
I have reproduced the article from Times of India and give credit to its author Mr Atul Sethi Read it below, and please share your comments: Dusk is slowly enveloping the small village of Missi in the Bidinki sub-division of Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Hasan Ahmed, a Muslim, is getting ready to attend a Hindu marriage ceremony, which he says, won't start without his arrival.
Descendants of Raja Bahrawat Singh, a Rajput king, who converted to Islam, the Gautamanas are fiercely proud of their lineage, with both Hindus and Muslims of the community preferring to call themselves Gautam Thakurs, to highlight their Rajput ancestry.
Hasan Ahmed, for instance, says that he considers himself a Gautam Thakur first and a Muslim later. It's just that my ties with my community are deeper," he says matter-of-factly.
In an area where caste and religion hold sway, the Gautam Thakurs epitomize communal tolerance. Communal tension within the community has never happened, says Ahmed. The Muslims too have responded by being staunchly loyal to the Hindus in the community. There has, however, been a price to pay for this solidarity.
Muslims outside the community treat the Gautam Muslims, with suspicion.
